How can an Instructional Coach help? 

The IC collaborates with and  supports the school Teacher-Librarian to:

Motivate and Support Readers

• ·         Celebrate national reading events
• ·         Support the establishment of Forest of Reading
           programs        
• ·         Promote book talks and book displays
• ·         Collaboratively develop virtual library collections

Connect Readers

• ·         Organize and lead book clubs,  literature and
           inquiry circles: face–to-face and online
• ·         Teach students to share books talks and critical re-

             views  in multiple formats

• ·         Organize family literacy events
• ·         Invite  authors and experts to work with students

Foster Multiple Literacies

• ·         Instruct students in the reading of text features
• ·         Model active reading strategies
• ·         Teach effective research strategies
• ·         Create a school library web presence
• ·         Integrate media literacy
• ·         Use technology to inspire students

Support Literacy School-Wide

• ·         Select the best resources and technology for
          differentiated instruction
• ·         Collaborate on literature or information circles
• ·         Create resource lists (“pathfinders”) for units
• ·         Provide read-aloud and themed book lists
• ·         Embed the library in the School Effectiveness Frame

             work, Critical Teaching-Learning Pathways
