Just Read

The GECDSB’s Just Read Program began in 2005 as a literacy initiative to increase student success. The intent was to provide the newest and best children’s literature and to promote the effective use of these resources through literature circles. Since its inception, the program has expanded to include resources for students in grades 4-8, and offers fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels.

Just Read kits include six copies of the designated title, as well as an accompanying non-fiction title. In most cases, the graphic novel kits do not include the accompanying non-fiction resource.

By exploring the Just Read Website, teachers can choose the best titles for their particular students. They can also find resources (worksheets, assessment tools) to use in their literature circles. Teachers book their chosen kit titles through the board’s Medianet with the easily accessible Medianet button on the bottom of the screen. Note: teachers can only book three kits of the same title at one time, and all kits have a default six-week loan period.

The Just Read site provides everything teachers need to make literature circles engaging and fun for both them and their students.
