Labels containing machine-readable data which uniquely identifies items for circulation in a library system.

Bibliography |
A list of items. |
Call Number |
A code made up of the class number, book number and author. It is used to locate items on library shelves. |
Collection Management |
All activities related to the development of the library collection including selection, evaluation, weeding, etc. |
Client Software |
Computer software for management of cataloguing, inventory and circulation. GECDSB libraries are currently using Sirsi Workflows. |
Easy Reader |
Materials with simple text and many illustrations designed for beginning readers. They are usually designated with an E for shelving purposes. |
Holdings |
All possessions of the library, or only what it has in any one area (e.g., french) |
ISBN |
International Standard Book Number - a unique number to each version of a book. Most current ISBNs have 13 digits. |
Information Literacy |

Jobber |
A book wholesaler. |
Keyword |
A significant word in the title, subject, etc. of a work, which may be used for searching purposes. |
MARC |
Machine Readable Cataloguing - a system of standards and formats by which catalogue records are prepared so that the record's contents can be stored, manipulated and retrieved through a library's automated system. MARC records are created centrally for GECDSB libraries by Liz Geier. |
Monograph |
A finite publication; a work which is not a serial. |
Out of Print |
No longer available from the publisher or for sale, except perhaps as a used copy. |
Patron |
Persons with the ability to access and check items out from the school library. |
Patron Card Maker |
A piece of software available to created patron bar codes. |
